THE PRODUCT AND MAIN APPLICATIONS

Cellophane is a pellicle produced from cellulose and will take five years to decompose in the environment, becoming a more nature-friendly alternative than plastic, which takes over 100 years to degrade. The cellulose used as raw material by Coopercel is produced from 100% eucalyptus wood obtained from sustainably managed forests. Cellophane is a versatile material with several applications both for companies and for the final consumer.

Some examples:

• Adhesive tape
• Delamination of rubber, roof tiles and notebooks
• Printed material and laminates in general

Wrapping for barbecues and other roasts (maintains the moisture during the roasting process). As cellophane is made from an essentially natural product (cellulose), it does not contaminate the food it comes in contact with and has the advantage of going from the microwave oven to the freezer.

• Decorated packages for candles, sweets, candies, Christmas baskets, Italian bread, snacks, Easter eggs, etc

INTERESTING FACTS

Did you know that:

Cellophane was created and improved by the Swiss chemist Jacques Brandenberger in the two first decades of the 20th century. The name, cellophane, is formed by two words: cellulose (the raw material) and diaphane (which means clear). La Cellophane S.A. was the first company to commercially produce the paper in Europe in 1913.

The use of cellophane was reduced with the advent of plastic, made from oil and with more attractive commercial advantages as it has a lower production cost. With the current environmental awareness, the clear film produced from regenerated cellulose is again seen as an optimal option. It is biodegradable (in up to five years) and is not obtained from oil, a non-renewable raw material and an emtting source of pollutant gases, which contribute to global warming.
